WHAT: The Cerritos College Theatre Department is delighted to present Intimate Apparel – a story about an African-American seamstress from the early 1900’s. Directed by Kevin Hoggard, this play was written by the award-winning American playwright, Lynn Nottage. This play, set in 1905 New York City, focuses on the struggles of African-Americans in the so-called “liberal” North. The story is about Esther, a seamstress of women’s intimate apparel. Through her eyes we see the societal expectations and boundaries of a single African-American female. Some of the highlights are the original score of period jazz ditties and elaborate corsetry.
